The little slabs that matter

Concrete Flatwork in Blue Island

Pads, landings and add-on slabs that sit level, shed rain and leave your yard tidy when we are done.

No Job Too Small to Do Properly

Some of the most useful concrete around a house is also the least glamorous. A flat spot for the garbage and recycling bins so they are not sinking into mud. A pad for the air conditioner that does not tilt. A landing outside the back door, or a strip that widens the drive so you can open the car door without stepping onto the grass. These are the jobs a lot of contractors will not return calls about, and they are the ones neighbors ask us about most. We give them the same care as a big pour. We dig down to solid ground, lay and pack a gravel base, set the forms with a little tilt so water runs off, and add steel wherever something heavy will sit. After the pour we finish the surface, cut joints if the slab is big enough to need them, and keep it moist so it cures strong. Then comes the part people remember: the leftover concrete, the form boards and the dirt piles all leave with us. Blue Island lots tend to be snug, so we are careful about where we stage materials and how we get in and out.

What Comes With Every Flatwork Job

Big or small, these steps are part of the deal.

  • A quick site look

We check the ground, the drainage and the easiest way in before we price anything.

  • Digging to solid soil

Grass, roots and soft dirt come out so the slab does not settle later.

  • Packed gravel base

Gravel spread and tamped down so the concrete sits on something firm.

  • A gentle slope

Forms set with a slight tilt so rain runs toward the yard, not the house.

  • Steel where it is needed

Reinforcement under an AC unit, a drive widening or anything else with weight on it.

  • Neat edges and joints

Tooled edges and joints cut so any cracking stays in a straight line.

  • Full cleanup

Forms out, scraps hauled off and soil pushed back along the sides.

How a Small Slab Gets Done

  1. Tell us what it is for

Bins, an AC unit, a grill, a parking spot. Knowing what goes on it tells us how thick to pour and whether it needs steel.

  2. We measure and write it up

A short visit to measure and check drainage, then a written price that includes cleanup and haul-away.

  3. Pour day and tidy up

Base, forms, pour and finish, usually in a single visit for a small slab. We come back to pull the forms and leave the yard neat.

Why Folks Call Us for the Small Stuff

  • We actually show up

Small jobs get a firm date and a phone call if anything changes.

  • Same base as a big pour

Gravel, compaction and slope on every slab, no matter how small.

  • No mess left behind

Leftovers, forms and dirt piles leave with us.

  • Packed gravel base
  • Water runs off
  • Joints cut straight
  • Yard left tidy
