A Place to Gather Out Back

A good patio turns a backyard into a second living room. Morning coffee, birthday parties, a grill going on a summer evening. We have been pouring patios since 2017, and the ones people enjoy most have two things in common: they are big enough and they drain right. So our opening question is always what happens out there. How many people? A dining table or a pair of lounge chairs? A fire pit? Then we suggest a size that leaves room to walk around the furniture, and we set the slope so rain runs toward the lawn and away from your foundation. Underneath, we dig to firm soil and pack in a gravel base. The slab itself is usually about 4 inches thick, with joints laid out so they frame the space rather than cutting through the middle of your seating area. You can pick a broom finish, a smooth trowel finish or a stamped pattern that looks like stone. Blue Island backyards are often on the smaller side, so we help you make the most of every foot, and we leave the rest of the yard as tidy as we found it.

What Your Patio Includes

Everything between the first conversation and the first barbecue.

  • Sizing help

A layout that fits your furniture with room to move around it.

  • Slope toward the lawn

Rain heads for the grass, not the back wall of the house.

  • Dig and gravel base

Firm soil and a packed gravel layer under the whole patio.

  • Surface options

Brushed, slick-troweled or stamped stone, plus a contrasting border if you like.

  • Joints that frame the space

Placed so they look intentional around your seating area.

  • Meeting the back door

Height set so the patio sits just below the door threshold, comfortable and dry.

  • Cleanup

Forms out, dirt filled back along the edges and the yard swept.

From Idea to Patio

  1. Chat about your plans

Who will be out there, which chairs and tables come along and where puddles show up after a downpour.

  2. Measure and write it up

We visit, measure, check the door height and drainage, and give you a written price with every piece listed.

  3. Build and tidy

Dig, base, forms, pour and finish. Once it cures, the forms come out and we leave the yard neat.
