Concrete Walkways and Sidewalks in Blue Island

Even sections, no raised edges catching toes and no ice patch forming by the porch each winter.

Safe Footing From the Street to Your Door

Few things wear out quite like an old front walk. Tree roots push one square up, another sinks, and pretty soon there is a lip waiting to catch the mail carrier, a grandparent or a kid on a scooter. Water finds the low spots and turns them into ice patches all winter. Replacing walks is one of our favorite jobs. We break out the bad sections, haul them away and dig down to solid ground. A layer of gravel goes in and gets packed down, because a walk that sits on loose dirt will heave again. The forms are set with a slight sideways tilt so rain runs off into the grass, and we match the height of any sections staying in place so the new and old meet flush. After the pour we give it a light broom finish for grip and cut joints at even spacing so it looks neat from the porch and from across the street. Many Blue Island homes have walks that run from the public sidewalk up to a raised front porch or down a narrow gangway to the back, and we are used to working in those tight spots without trampling the garden.

What Your Walkway Job Covers

All the pieces that make a walk safe for kids, grandparents and the mail carrier.

  • Breaking out the old walk

Heaved, sunken or crumbling sections removed and taken away.

  • Solid ground and gravel

Dug to firm soil with a packed gravel layer underneath.

  • Flush with what stays

New sections set to meet existing walks, porches and drives evenly.

  • Sideways tilt

A slight slope so rain sheds into the lawn instead of puddling.

  • Broom finish

A light texture for better footing when it is wet or snowy.

  • Evenly spaced joints

Cut in a neat rhythm so any cracks stay straight and tidy.

  • Lawn edges restored

Dirt pushed back along both sides once the forms come out.

Getting Your New Walk In

  1. Tell us where it runs

Front walk, side path or sidewalk squares. Give us the length, the width and how the current one has failed.

  2. We measure and quote

A quick visit to measure and check slope, then a written price with removal, gravel, finish and cleanup.

  3. Pour and tidy up

Out with the old, in with the base and the new concrete. When the forms come off, we fix the lawn edges and sweep up.

Why Our Walks Stay Safe

  • Packed base underneath

The gravel layer is what keeps sections from heaving apart.

  • Flush transitions

New meets old without a lip to catch your toe.

  • Respect for your yard

Flower beds, fences and shrubs protected while we work.

  • Old walk hauled away
  • Gravel base packed
  • Flush with neighbors
  • Lawn edges fixed
