The look of stone, poured

Stamped Concrete in Blue Island

Patios, walks and drives with the charm of stone or brick and none of the loose pieces.

Brown stamped concrete with a large slate pattern

Pretty Enough to Show Off, Tough Enough for Daily Use

Stamped concrete is how you get a flagstone patio or a brick-look front walk without setting a single stone. The concrete is poured and leveled, then colored, and while it is still soft our crew lays big rubber mats across it and tamps the texture in. A second, darker shade settles into the grooves so the stones look natural and a little weathered. Once the slab cures, we wash it and roll on sealer, which deepens the color and helps keep stains and water out. It takes good timing and enough hands on pour day, because the whole surface has to be stamped before it gets too stiff. It also takes planning: control joints still need to be cut, and we line them up with the pattern so they blend in. We back our stamped work with an 8-month warranty on cracks larger than 1/8 inch, and on a stamped surface the repair is done with an overlay so it fits the finish. In a town full of brick bungalows and older frame homes, a warm-toned stamped patio or walk tends to look like it has always been there.

What a Stamped Job Includes

Here is what goes into getting that stone look just right.

  • Help picking a pattern

Flagstone, ashlar slate, cobblestone, brick or wood plank, matched to your home.

  • Main color

A base tone chosen to work with your brick, siding or trim.

  • Accent shade

A second color that collects in the texture for depth and an aged look.

  • Hand-finished edges

Borders and tight spots textured by hand where the big mats will not reach.

  • Joints that blend in

Control joints lined up with the pattern so they are hard to spot.

  • Wash and seal

Leftover powder rinsed away and sealer applied to finish the surface.

  • Crack coverage

Cracks over 1/8 inch in the first 8 months are repaired with an overlay.

How Your Stamped Concrete Comes Together

  1. Chat about the look

Tell us where it is going and what style you like. We talk about patterns and colors that suit your house and how much area to cover.

  2. Tape measure and paperwork

After a visit, you get one written number covering gravel, tint, texture, sealer and the tidy-up.

  3. Pour, stamp and seal

Base and forms first, then a pour day with a full crew to color and stamp. After it cures we wash it, seal it and tidy the yard.
